Author Nancie Clare celebrated the release of her first book, In the Spirit of Beverly Hills (Assouline), at designer Kelly Wearstler’s flagship boutique in Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 15. The tome is filled with famous photographs of the city collected over the past 100 years depicting the city’s luxurious homes, lavish Rodeo Drive boutiques, and the catalyst for it all, the Beverly Hills Hotel. “The hotel was integral to the birth of the city. It was where people stayed when they looked at lots to buy,” said Clare. “Douglas Fairbanks was the first celebrity to move in, and the floodgates opened and Beverly Hills became the place to live,” she added. Beverly Hills mayor John Mirisch and his son Vincent joined Clare at the event, along with host of friends and fans. Clare signed copies of the volume celebrating the city’s 100th anniversary as guests poured over images of Elizabeth Taylor, Charlie Chaplin, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and important architectural works by Wallace Neff, Paul Williams, and John Lautner.
